Powerful waste disposal solutions by Höcker Polytechnik

The reliable disposal of all product wastes such as margin edges of corrugated board systems, gripper edges, chads, and dust, are the backbone in the corrugated board production. After Höcker Polytechnik GmbH in 2013 provided a customised waste disposal system for the Schumacher Packaging GmbH in Poland (a second facility will be provided 2014), Höcker was again the first choice to supply a new corrugated board factory in Greven, Germany.

The result of this cooperation is based on a well-conceived, energy-saving, and low-maintenance waste disposal solution for all accumulating corrugated board waste. The plant was conceived with a high degree of availability in mind and can grow with future factory expansions. Be to sign is intended for a 24-hour operation.

Höcker Polytechnik is one of the leading manufacturers of extraction and filter systems, recycling, waste disposal and environmental technology plants. Its expertise is based on decades working in plant engineering and construction in the corrugated board industry and this know-how was integrated into this project.

Below the new factory in Greven, and barely visible from above ground, a space-saving and efficient network of underground conveyor systems and energy-efficient drive motors can be found. This belt and chain conveyor system, measuring 215 m long, transports the entire amount of production waste and trimmings in a safe and efficient way to its final above-ground material processing location. And it does this around the clock. A further main component of the plant is the extraction of the margin edges during the corrugated board production. Margin edges occur on both sides along the corrugated board. A shredder fan/transport fan extracts these margin edges at a production speed of up to 350 m/min. The high-performance fans used in this application were developed by Höcker and are used in corrugated board factories all over the world. The shredded margin edges are transported to the material separator, travelling through a pipeline system at high velocity. The separator is located high above the automated ball press and continuously separates cardboard and dust-containing exhaust air from the conveyor system. Together with the chads from the production, the corrugated board is pressed into balls with high density. This makes the storage and transport to the paper recycling facility easier.

A vacuum jet filter system is used to separate the extracted dust, and an integrated briquetting press “BrikStar”, compresses the dusts to briquettes that are easy to store. The MultiStar filter system was integrated into the production facility using a space-saving approach and the noise emissions were reduced to a minimum that barely audible. The quite clean air fans, integrated into the fan attachment module are highly efficient and turn the MultiStar into a “whispering filter” that is almost completely silent. This purified, clean air from the filter is return to the production hall during the heating period. This type of heat recovery saves on primary energy and reduces costs.

During the design of the entire system, the focus was directed towards fire protection and explosion prevention. The partitioning of the system into fire sections and the use of certified fire protection slides comply with the engineering requirements. The entire MultiStar filter series is DEKRA Exam certified.

This innovative waste disposal project is the result of perfect and close collaboration between the corrugated board manufacturer Schumacher Packaging GmbH and its long-time partner in finding solutions in the waste disposal and recycling business, Höcker Polytechnik GmbH.
